Tech support insisted that the next firmware update will include Netflix and he double checked with other tech support staff regarding this situation. Netflix has only been out for less than a week. Other movies I have tried so far play fine. when i contacted tech support at WD they checked and were adamant that there will be an update to the WD live TV Hub, to allow full operation of Netflix. I suspect you’re using two different models. Latest Versions: WD TV Live HD: 1.06.43V WD TV Live Plus: 1.06.43B WD TV Live Hub: 3.12.13 WD TV Live Streaming Media Player: 2.02.32. 1.02.17 isn’t the latest for ANY WD TV Live player. You only have to play the first minute or two and please let me know if you get the same. The WD TV’s that run 1.02.17 do not, never have, and never will support netflix. The movie has some crazy ghosting/pixelation going on. 12 However, actual user experience has lagged for some. In order to support Netflix, a macrovision enabled SoC was required ( Sigma Designs SMP8654) and the Linux system is also now encrypted. Here’s a couple of video reviews of features …Ĭan you tell me what custom firmware you can run on these? I thought these were locked down. The first movie I tried to play after updating to 1.08.17 in Netflix was Open Season 3. Released early in 2010 11 and having all the features of the WD TV Live along with Netflix streaming support. Sure, people have reported mp4 problems … (probably 1 out of a few 100 that i’ve tested won’t play … a simple remux fixes the problem) but hopefully will be resolved in the next firmware release. The New WDTV Media Player does everything the old players do (but has more online services, miracast, new GUI “Grid:”,DTSMA, etc)Ĭan also run custom firmware (i’m currently testing a beta version lot’s of features … i like the UMSP feature … so, more online content) Well, myself being a recent owner of the WDTV Media Player (New Model - No Netflix - Don’t Care Netflix isnt Available in my Country) and also i own a WDTV Gen 1, WDTV Live (Gen2) and a WDTV Live Hub Netflix is a streaming service that offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices. Does anyone know if there is a good review of the WD TV Player that is honest (in comparison of the older media devices) and not just a positive review designed to sell you on the WD TV Player?
